On Top Of The World with Cableway’s Very High Tea

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to enjoy a tea-licious Very High Tea on top of one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature? Well, you don’t have to wonder any longer as YOU can now experience a cup above the rest with the Table Mountain Cableway’s recently launched Very High Tea!

Spending time on top of Table Mountain is always a treat, and even more so now that they offer a delicious Very High Tea. I was recently invited to indulge in a Very High Tea along with a group of media personalities. I felt like a kid in a candy store at the prospect of enjoying something new on Table Mountain and what I was sure would be an utterly delectable experience!

One thing that you cannot control is the weather. Fortunately, we were met with intermittent clouds and barely a breeze at the summit. The views were breathtaking as always. I still get a thrill when seeing the city from a bird’s-eye view. It is nothing short of spectacular!

Lion’s Head encircled by clouds.
The magnificent Mother City.

Hosted in the trendy Cableway Wi-Fi Lounge, a venue offering free Wi-Fi access and magnificent views of the Mother City, we were greeted with warm smiles and a glass of divine De Grendel Brut MCC. Bubbles are always a great idea in my opinion. The Very High Tea was off to a sparkling start indeed!

If you think that this is just any old High Tea with boring cucumber sandwiches and a less then inspiring menu, think again! Indulge in a tantalizing selection of mouth-watering sweet and savoury delights, accompanied by a selection of Twining’s or organic Nelson Mandela teas, local coffee and the delectable De Grendel Brut MCC.

Cableway Food and Beverage Executive Manager Eugene Labuschagne says, “Our team of Cableway chefs has taken the time to develop a menu that merges traditional English bites with some favourite South African flavours.”

From Salmon Trout Pannequet (a fancy name for little Salmon Trout-filled crêpés), Lentil Bobotie Bites and Blue Cheese and Pickled Pear Puffs to luscious Lemon Meringue Tartlets (so yum!) and Peanut Butter Brownie Cheesecake, indulge your taste buds and take them on a foodie adventure that is sure to satisfy your soul (and tummy!). The standouts for me were the Gazpacho Prawn Shooter (flavour explosion!) and the Lemon Meringue Tartlets. I could easily have devoured these two all afternoon!

Insta-worthy High Tea delicacies!

Take note: There are no bathroom facilities at the Wi-Fi Lounge, so make use of the facilities at the Lower Cable Station. Another option is to walk to the nearest bathroom at the top which is situated just below the restaurant. People in wheelchairs can make use of the bathroom facilities around the corner from the Ticket Office at the Lower Cable Station or inside the Top Station building at the Upper Cable Station.

The Very High Tea is served Mondays to Sundays, weather permitting and subject to reservation, at 14h30 and costs R325.00 per person, excluding your Cableway ticket. Return tickets can be purchased online from www.tablemountain.net or from the Lower Station Ticket Office.

The Cableway caters for various dietary requirements. Very High Tea reservations are limited to 20 people per seating, with no less than 10 people per group.

This is a truly unique way to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, milestone wedding anniversaries or engagements. Don’t miss out on an unforgettable and special time high up in the clouds, or if you are lucky, a perfectly clear day with views for days! I was on Cloud 9 for a long time after my Very High Tea experience!
