Tintswalo at Boulders – An Idyllic Luxury Getaway

When it comes to offering unique and luxurious five-star accommodation with breathtaking ocean views and distinctive, personalized service, the newest addition to the Tintswalo Lodges portfolio, Tintswalo at Boulders Boutique Villa, fits the bill perfectly.

Whether you are looking for a tranquil, romantic getaway with your loved one or a seaside family holiday, Tintswalo at Boulders is where you want to stay to create those special memories.

Situated in the charming village of Simon’s Town in Cape Town, I recently had the opportunity to stay at this luxury property with my Mom. She was visiting at the time and it was such a pleasure to treat her to this five-star experience.

Walking through the doors of Tintswalo at Boulders felt like coming home. Last year, I attended a bloggers event to view the exclusive property and enjoy a gourmet breakfast; I immediately fell in love with the beautifully furnished villa, lush fynbos, gorgeous ocean views, not to mention the African penguins that can be seen from the villa. Knowing that my second visit included an overnight stay made the experience even more exciting.

“WITCH” SUITE?

Welcomed by familiar, friendly faces and a refreshing drink, we were shown to our opulent suite. Waterwitch is located on the upper level with jaw-dropping ocean views. Enjoy them from your own private outdoor patio or from the luxurious cocoon of the soft and sumptuous bed.

Our beautiful and uniquely decorated suite provided a tranquil and relaxing haven. Some of the amenities include a cosy fireplace, tea and coffee station, mini-fridge, plush bathrobes and slippers (the BEST I have ever had the pleasure of wearing!), free Wi-Fi, large flat-screen TV and Africology body products in the bathroom (individual bath and shower). The bathroom is part of the suite, but is hidden behind a wall for added privacy.

The iconic location of Tintswalo at Boulders offers uninterrupted views of the world-famous resident colony of endangered African penguins at Boulders Beach below and includes direct access from the villa to the pristine swimming beaches. Here you can see the penguins up close in their natural environment. But don’t get too close as they do bite. They are wild animals after all, and you don’t want to disturb them.

We chose to stay in our suite, sip on some bubbly and admire the magnificent views before heading downstairs for drinks and canapés . I just couldn’t get enough of the azure blue waters. Cleverly sheltered from the wind, the private outdoor patio has comfortable furniture and a cosy nest chair which I claimed as mine during our stay.

Tintswalo at Boulders offers nine double suits, as well as a children’s suite and operates on a bed and breakfast basis. Afternoon canapés are also included. One can hire the villa on an exclusive-use basis for friends and families travelling together. Choose from a private villa of four suites, or the entire villa which sleeps 18 adults and 2 children. This is the ideal place for special celebrations or fun getaways. If you aren’t keen on doing any cooking yourself (you are on holiday after all!), a private chef is available on request.

Simon’s Town’s rich shipping history is evident throughout the villa. All the suites at Tintswalo at Boulders are inspired by great ships in history and are each named after a famous ship. The interior is a decor lover’s dream. The maritime theme flows throughout the suites and villa with calming ocean shades of green and blue (my favourite).

RELAXING AT THE VILLA

The elegant and spacious living areas feature beautiful artwork, interesting books, gorgeous glass paper weights (I have a thing for these!), plush sofas and fireplaces for those cold, winter nights. Fresh flowers and exotic orchids add finesse with their beauty and fine fragrances.

We enjoyed delectable canapés and drinks on the verandah overlooking Boulders Beach. Stanford pours a mean G&T (I may have had a few as they were that good!) so be sure to ask for him when you are there. If craft gin isn’t your thing, choose from a wonderful selection of award-winning Cape wines.

For the best ocean views, take a dip in the rooftop plunge pool while sipping on a cool cocktail. There are many cosy areas where you can escape the wind. One of these is the social fire pit which is a great spot to enjoy some drinks and snacks.

If you need a pamper session, book an in-room treatment of your choice (additional charge) with one of their skilled therapists. The on-site Spa is currently under construction.

We decided to skip dinner that evening as we wanted to relax in our sumptuous suite. There are some lovely restaurants and cafes in Simon’s Town with one restaurant within walking distance of the villa.

A lavish, gourmet breakfast is a fabulous way to start any day. Not only will you be spoilt with amazing views from the outdoor verandah, you will also be spoilt for choice with an array of tantalizing treats. Whether you fancy some homemade pastries, granola with freshly cut fruit and yoghurt, various cheeses and cold meats, you can indulge your inner foodie with these and more.

Smoked salmon and bubbly for breakfast is a heavenly combination. Imagine my delight when I spotted both of these at breakfast! If you still have room for more, you can order a hot breakfast of your choice. I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon! Tea, coffee and fruit juices are also available. In case you are wondering why there aren’t more foodie photos, it’s because I was too busy tucking in to take photos 😉 Trust me on this one – it was all so delish!

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN THE AREA

The False Bay coastline has much to explore and experience. A visit to Boulders Beach to see the African penguins is a must and you will find some of the “warmest” waters in Cape Town at the beautiful swimming beach. I could easily spend the day here soaking up the sun and watching the cute penguins swimming and diving in the water.

The centre of Simon’s Town is a short walk from the villa (about 1.6km) and well worth exploring on foot. The quaint village is rich in maritime history and character and offers quite a few restaurants, coffee shops, museums and unique stores. Here you will also find the False Bay Yacht Club and South Africa’s largest naval base, Simon’s Town Naval Base. Keep an eye out for a statue of Just Nuisance in Jubilee Square, the only dog to ever be enlisted in the Royal Navy!

The quirky village of Kalk Bay, the Constantia Wine Route and a trip to Cape Point are great ideas for day excursions. The Concierge at the villa will be happy to assist you with recommendations and reservations.
