Lights! Camera! Action! Sneak peek of my recent photo shoot

It isn’t often that I find myself in front of the camera. I’m always the one taking the shots. Whenever we visit a wine estate, the beach, a market or find ourselves on a weekend getaway, I have to remind my hubby that we need to take at least ONE family photo together. Or you wouldn’t know that I am part of the same family. Ok, that may seem a bit extreme, but I think you know what I mean. Take a sneak peek at some of the pics from my recent photo shoot …

When Matt Masson sent me a message saying I’d won his photo shoot competition, I was simultaneously excited and filled with a bit of trepidation at the prospect of being IN FRONT of the lens. I’m very happy being the photographer. And then another thought hit me! What was I going to do about my hair, makeup and clothes? I can certainly dress myself, but doing my hair and makeup for a photo shoot isn’t exactly my forte.

I had my hair done on the morning of the shoot by Jaqui of Hair by Jaqui in Pinelands. Natasha Martin from itsamakeupthingxoxo came to the rescue by magically transforming my tired, 40-something face. I barely recognised myself when I looked in the mirror, but in a very good way! This super talented young makeup artist recently worked on set for a photo shoot for YOU and Huisgenoot magazines. She graduated from Smudge Makeup Academy and has a real passion for what she does. She’s also friendly and full of fab advice regarding makeup and skin care.

The original venue was meant to be the beach as it’s my happy place, but being winter, the weather didn’t exactly play along. Matt and I met up at Truth Café in Buitenkant Street. If you’ve ever entered this quirky café, the first thing that hits you is the heavenly aromatic scent of gourmet, home-roasted coffee that will keep most caffeine addicts very happy. The second thing you notice is the amazing steampunk decor filled with pipes and old metal. We chatted a bit while having some divine coffee and then it was time for the shoot – enter NERVES! But there was no need to be nervous or anxious at all, as Matt put me at ease with his friendly and relaxed manner.

We took to the streets of Cape Town and fortunately for us, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds every now and then. It was such fun that I soon relaxed and just enjoyed the experience.

If you ever need a professional make-up artist with serious skills, get in touch with Natasha. I can highly recommend her as well as Matt. He and his team will take care of all your wedding and lifestyle photography needs.

I’d love to hear if you’ve ever had the pleasure of working with Natasha or Matt. Let me know in the comments section below 🙂
