No passport? No problem! Take a culinary tour with Societi Bistro’s #TourThroughItaly

What springs to mind when you think of Italy? This beautiful European country has enchanted travellers for eons and continues to work it’s magic upon travellers today. Italy offers so much for everyone that is fortunate enough to visit. The beauty of Italy’s landscape is undeniable and is famous for it’s gorgeous and bountiful vineyards, stunning Mediterranean coastline, majestic mountains, glistening lakes and abundant wildlife.

The country’s 20 regions are incredibly diverse, each with their own traditions, dialect, architecture and delicious food.

But one cannot think of Italy and not think about the abundance of flavourful food and divine wine! It’s no secret Italians love their food and they are known for their recipes. Italy is, after all, the birthplace of the world’s most popular fast food – pizza! Italian food is without a doubt one of my absolute favourite cuisines.

I was excited to attend the private media launch of Societi Bistro’s culinary Tour Through Italy. Located in a restored Georgian-style home, built in 1813, in Cape Town’s Orange Street, we were treated to a delectable feast of delicious canapés and sublime wines that paired together beautifully. The wine was flowing and there was certainly no shortage of food. Societi Bistro really knows how to throw a fabulous launch party!

Over the course of 10 weeks starting on Wednesday, 10 May 2017, they will offer 10 menus paired with 10 exceptional wines from various regions in Italy. You can find each region’s menu with a yummy description of the food and recommended wine of that particular region on the Societi Bistro website. Prepare for a sensory feast that will tantalize your taste buds and send them soaring! From the delicious tasters we enjoyed at the launch party, I think you’re going to find it rather challenging to choose just one region’s menu. But that’s ok. I’m sure Societi Bistro would love to see you a few times over the course of their Tour Through Italy.

One of the stand out tasters for me was the Spaghetti all’ Aglio Olio e Peperoncino, which is spaghetti with garlic, olive oil & chilli. It may sound simple, but this mouthful was a flavour bomb of note! I’m not a chilli fan but it had just the right amount in each forkful (Region 6: Molise, Abruzzo & Marche – Wednesday 14 to Tuesday 20 June 2017).

Another was the Coniglio alla Cacciatora, also known as Hunter’s Style Rabbit served with tomato and polenta which was absolutely delicious (Region 7: Emilia – Romagna – Wednesday 21 to Tuesday 27 June 2017). It was perfectly cooked with tons of flavour. I could happily devour this on a cold winter’s eve.

For more than 13 years, this well-known and popular neighbourhood “local” has been wowing patrons with their delicious food and warm, friendly atmosphere. Their food philosophy is simple yet it works so well.  Along with their genuine love for seasonal produce, they offer amazing food options with exceptional value. And very generous portions! Plus their fireplaces keep you nice and cosy. On balmy summer evenings, enjoy the glorious view of Table Mountain from the outdoor terrace.

This is the place to be if you’re looking for a home away from home. It’s about more than just cuisine – it’s a way of living. A sanctuary where you can take your time to savour a meal whilst enjoying the company of dear family and friends. It’s also a great spot to celebrate special events such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries. Or even a stunning wedding brunch on a Saturday morning.

Make a booking today so that you don’t miss out on this Italian culinary extravaganza that is sure to tantalize your taste buds and keep you coming back for more.

I’ll be there during June to savour the delights of Region 7: Emilia – Romagna – can’t wait! And I may just pop in again for another meal or two after that 😉

I’d never quite tasted rabbit like that before and it was so yum. I think you may need more than a few days in Cape Town to fully satisfy your taste buds 😉 We are going to Societi Bistro in June so may just see you there!
