The Secret To Chef Giorgio’s Perfect Pizza

I remember thinking “Where are the rest of the toppings?” when my pizza arrived at our table in Venice a few years ago. The base was thin and perfectly light, just the way I like it, but it looked as if there were far too few toppings.

After taking my first bite or two, I realized that this is exactly what an authentic Italian pizza should taste like. We may not have been eating it in Naples, the modern birthplace of pizza, but it sure was damn delicious. I realized then that we’ve been eating it all wrong in South Africa. Of course, each person has their own preferences, but for a taste of real, authentic pizza in Cape Town, you simply must go to 95 Keerom.

FOODIE FIND ~ A Lip-Smacking Good Time At The Grille Shack

Hello lovelies! I know it’s been a while since my last post. It may seem that I’m in hibernation now that winter has well and truly arrived, but I’m still here, just feeling the cold weather BIG time!

You may recall that I wrote a post about our stunning stay at On The Bay Retreat in Gordon’s Bay last year. Have a read here if you need a refresher or haven’t read it yet. During the June/July school holidays, we once again stayed at what has easily become one of our favourite family getaways close to Cape Town.

On The Bay Retreat, Gordon’s Bay.

Whenever I revisit a place, I like to find out what’s new and happening since my last stay, especially when it comes to food. And boy! Were we in luck when Mackenzie from On The Bay raved about her recent visit to a fairly new foodie hot spot and how much she enjoyed it. So naturally, we had to check it out for ourselves to see what the fuss was all about.

FOODIE FIND – VADAS SMOKEHOUSE & BAKERY

Spending time at Spier Wine Farm is always a treat. The popular wine-tourism destination is constantly evolving and places a large emphasis on sustainable farming, empowering the local community through their Growing for Good learning initiatives and ethical environmental practices.

The fact that I really enjoy discovering and exploring wine farms and estates is no secret. When said wine farm or estate offers a variety of dining options, I’m even happier. Spier certainly caters for foodies of all types and their newest eatery, Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery, is a tasty addition to the farm’s thriving food scene.

Views And Vines At Vondeling Wines

I fell in love with Vondeling (meaning ‘foundling’) long before I had the pleasure of visiting the wine farm at the foot of the Paardeberg Mountain. One sip of their luscious Rosé and I was hooked! I had yet to taste the rest of their extensive and award-winning range. This was one place that had been on my wine tripping list for a while, yet I’d never managed to get there. So many wine farms, so little time!
