Family fun at the Thursday Food Market

One thing I noticed almost immediately when we moved to Pinelands nearly 3 years ago, is that there is a genuine sense of community spirit. It’s something we haven’t really experienced in the time that we’ve lived in Cape Town.  It’s evident at the Thursday Food Market at The Pinelands Club in Lonsdale Way (5pm – 830pm).

This weekly food market is very popular among the Pinelands community and we try to go at least twice a month. It’s a great spot to catch up with family and friends, enjoy a leisurely meal (yay for no cooking!) over a drink or two.

There are many familiar faces including the friendly food vendors that sell their delicious homemade goodies.  Whether you’re in the mood for Mexican, Thai, Greek or Indian food, they’ve got it. Maybe pork roast with crunchy crackling and all the trimmings? Banters are catered for as well. Generously filled schwarmas and wraps feature too and those with a sweet tooth will not be disappointed.

Pierre’s Pancakes often has a long queue for those wanting their sweet fix. Savoury pancakes are on offer too. Our son usually makes a beeline for the pancakes and mini doughnuts.

Drinks can be bought at the bar at club prices and enjoyed at inside tables or outdoors at picnic benches. Kids have great fun running around on the spacious lawns and with summer on it’s way, they will soon be splashing in the swimming pools (there is one for babies and young toddlers).

The first Last Thursday took place on 25 August 2016 where we were entertained by the very talented Pinelander and former The Voice SA contestant, Chris Werge. The donation entry fee of R20 per adult (Under 14’s are free) went to Mhani Gingi, a non-profit organisation. The live music created an even more festive vibe, with everyone enjoying the cool music while supporting a great cause.

The next Last Thursday will be held on 29 September 2016 and this time, The Voice SA semi-finalist Jono Grayson will be performing, Again, the proceeds of the donation entry fee will go to Mhani Gingi. This event will no doubt be very well supported, so get there early to secure a table, or bring your own picnic blanket and relax on the lawn.

Be sure not to miss out on this fun and festive family event at The Pinelands Club – see you there!

The Thursday Food Market at The Pinelands Club in Lonsdale Way, Pinelands is open from 5pm–830pm each Thursday. There is no cost to enter unless there is a live music gig.
