Eendracht Hotel Celebrates 25 Years by Going BLUE

This month Eendracht proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary by going BLUE and installing an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging point on its property.

Over the past 25 years – the award-winning Eendracht Hotel & Apartments situated in Dorp Street in the heart of historical Stellenbosch – has consistently proven to be a market leader and has recently been upgraded from a 3-star to a 4-star Boutique Hotel.

First, it was introducing the concept of a Dorpsherberg (Village Hotel) to South Africa, then, it was the first privately owned South African hotel to have free Wi-Fi throughout the whole building and introduce Smart TVs with preloaded Netflix and Showmax, in all its rooms.

Now in the month that Eendracht turns 25 years old, it is befitting that Eendracht once again, takes the lead by being one of the first hotels in South Africa to have a 22kw DC Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Point installed for its guests for convenient on-site charging.

The Eendracht EV point is connected to the nationwide GridCars network and can be utilised by all EV car manufacturers available in South Africa (Audi, BMW, Jaguar etc) by means of a RFID card and an App system. Both Type 1 and Type 2 points are available with up to maximum charging capacity of 22kw DC power. A countrywide network of live publicly available charging points is obtainable on GridCars’ website.

Eendracht’s partner hotel – Montagu Country Hotel in Montagu – has also recently installed a similar EV charging point. A mere two-hour drive via Route 62 from Eendracht gets you to Montagu – the perfect distance away for the average EV.

Steeped in history, Eendracht was rebuilt in 1996/7 by the Lutz family as the original building – a small two-roomed cottage built in 1710 – was demolished in the early 1960s. Fitted out then as a small 3-star hotel with 13 en-suite bedrooms it grew to a 4-star establishment with many alterations and embellishments having been added over the years –  in 2010, three fully serviced, self-catering apartments were added, in 2014 loadshedding-proof Solar panels, with several upgrades since, and in 2020 Senobia’s, its onsite restaurant and an intimate, video-conferencing venue, The Huddle Room.

Both Eendracht Hotel & Apartments and Montagu Country Hotel are members of Cape Country Routes.

Now, reconstructed by the Lutz Trust while remaining true to the original architecture, it boasts 13 en-suite bedrooms and three newly refurbished self-catering units in a restored 1928 art deco-styled house. Eendracht exudes a warm friendly atmosphere which is enhanced by Senobia’s Restaurant where both breakfasts and lunches – with daily specials, seasonal food and traditional South African dishes – can be enjoyed by both hotel guests and the public.  There is also a meeting room – The Huddle Room – suitable for up to eight people, it is equipped with state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities, high-speed internet access and other equipment needed for today’s inevitable Zoom-type meetings. Lunch and breakfast at Senobia’s are included in its half or full day package.
